MIPCOM: Comedy Central has acquired NBC Universal comedy Whitney which features LA-based comedian, actor and writer Whitney Cummings portraying a fictionalised version of herself.

The 13-part series, which began airing on NBC in the US in September, follows the trials of unmarried couple Whitney and her long-term partner Alex as they deal with keeping their relationship alive despite having no plans to marry.

Cummings is also exec producer of the series which features many of her network of friends.

It’s due to air on Comedy Central in spring 2012 hafving been acquired by the channel’s director of programming and planning Chris Collie.

Jill Offman, Comedy Central’s managing director said: “Whitney has a hilariously skewed view of modern relationships that’s not too far from the truth.”
