Zodiak Rights has renewed its first-look development deal with Firecracker Films, producer of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.
The three-year deal will give Zodiak distribution rights to the forthcoming second series of the hit ob doc.
It also includes three new spin-offs, which will launch to the international market at Mipcom in Cannes next month. These include:
- My Bigger Fatter Gypsy Wedding;
- My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas (w/t);
- Thelma’s Gypsy Girls (w/t).
The latter is a four-part series that revisits the Liverpool dressmaking shop that played a key role in the original series, where owner Thelma Madine is training 10 traveller girls to work for her.
All the new programmes are produced for Channel 4.
Matthew Frank, chief executive of Zodiak Rights, said: “Big Fat Gypsy Weddings is just the latest in a long line of international best sellers we’ve sold for them over the last decade so naturally we’re delighted to be cementing the relationship for a further three years.”
My Bigger Fatter Gypsy Wedding is a one-hour special that features the biggest traveller wedding of the year and has already been sold to a number of territories including Spain (Antena 3), New Zealand (TVNZ), Australia (XYZ), Denmark (SBS) Discovery Communications Europe and Finland (Channel 4).
Discovery Communications Europe has already picked up the rights to My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas, filmed in a small town in Ireland where roaming travellers return each year to celebrate not only Christmas, but a string of extravagant weddings and First Communions.
New acquisitions of the first series include BBC Worldwide Global Channels, Vox (Germany), NRK (Norway), TV4 (Sweden) and Discovery Networks Latin America.
These recent sales add previous agreements with Discovery Networks for Italy, Poland, Romania, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Slovenia, XYZnetworks for LifeStyle YOU in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand, Antena 3 NOVA in Spain and VTM in Belgium.
