MIPCOM: A new teen action drama is to be the first project to emerge from a new partnership between FremantleMedia Enterprises and Animation Collective.

Black Dawn is a science fiction show about 16-year-old Cameron Turner’s search for his lost father.

The 26 x 22-minute series, produced using both live action footage and animation, will see the teen hero find clues to his father’s whereabouts in the comic books he wrote before disappearing.

Created by New York-based Animation Collective chief executive Larry Schwarz, it is the first project to come out of a recently announced partnership to develop content for the children’s and teen market.

In addition to co-producing, FME will also have exclusive worldwide distribution, home entertainment licensing rights to the series.

Sander Schwartz, president of kids and family entertainment at FME, said: “Larry has created funny, aspiration characters and thrown them into a unique, high-octane scenario that we think will become appointment viewing for kids.”

FME’s kids and family entertainment division was launched in 2009 and now has 12 titles in production, with its budget set to double, according to chief executive Tony Cohen.
