The 'risk' is that we might actually do things better! That's the 'risk'! The 'risk' of our success thus making it difficult to justify not giving us opportunities because we are a 'risk'. I'm sick of this 'risk' business. If a white producer makes a show that flops it's ok, hell still have another day. If a woman or 'effnik' has a bad day s/he is a risk and will never work again. Furthermore the way productions work there are so many checks and balances in the process it is impossible for one person to bring down the whole edifice. AND while I'm on the subject,a job of a producer is to 'PRODUCE'! are you with me people? It's all in there. PRODUCE that means work with and craft something/someone. Everytime they have one of these events no one is allowed to speak or debate. Everything is decided behind closed doors and we are just the audience to watch and clap. Like Spike Lee said today in LA 'we're not even in the room'. Much less the table. Slow rate of change. Like MLK said, 'how long must we wait?' Oh yes I guess it's an improvement though, last year we used to get hit upside the head 100 times, today we only get hit upside the head 50 times...things are getting better! As a dear African American Friend of mine one told me. We don't need more training or more short films on the online platform. We can do that on youtube with go cams! We need executives and decision makers that don't have to have everything explained to them gawking back at us like we are from another planet.
