A Ton of Cash is a new Endemol UK format with a clever twist that sees the prize itself becoming a burden. The object of the game is for two teams of contestants to drag a ton of prize money through the wilderness. The teams compete against each other in a physically and psychologically gruelling race, overcoming a number of obstacles on their way across deserts and tough terrain. The aim is to cross the finishing line first, taking as much of the cash as they can carry with them.
Who’s showing it?
The format was launched at Mipcom two weeks ago and United Arab Emirates channel Abu Dhabi TV has commissioned 15 episodes as well as 84 daily updates on the contestants’ progress. The order represents the first commission for Endemol’s newly created Middle East arm which will officially open in Dubai in November.
Coming to the UK?
Endemol International director of commercial and creative affairs Mike Morley said further deals were expected to be completed shortly after Mipcom.
Will it work here?
It’s quite an extreme idea, but could work - as well as offering loads of pun potential on the phrase “cash and carry”.
