Former ITV exec Alison Sharman is moving to Australia after she was appointed as head of commissioning for public broadcaster SBS.
The move comes after the former ITV director of factual and daytime left the broadcaster after seven years in February.
Sharman will be responsible for commissioning across SBS’s two channels and will work across genres including drama, comedy and factual.
SBS is the country’s second largest public broadcaster, after ABC, and airs series including dramas East West 101 and Danger 5.
Sharman will start in August.
She was previously responsible for all daytime and factual commissioning at ITV and oversaw the launch of Daybreak in 2010.
Her departure led to the restructure of ITV’s factual and daytime teams and resulted in the hire of BBC4 controller Richard Klein as factual boss and forner Channel 4 exec Helen Warner as director of daytime.
SBS director of television and online content Tony Iffland said: “Sharman joins SBS at an exciting time as we seek to build on our reputation for telling diverse Australian stories through impactful content that pushes the boundaries and gets people talking.
Having a dedicated ead of Commissioning as part of the SBS team will be an important part of meeting the challenge of entertaining audiences across our platforms with innovative and thought-provoking local content in a competitive and fragmenting media market.”
