Steven Knight to exec produce series on football club’s promotion to the Championship

Amazon Prime Video has ordered its latest sporting documentary series, this time centring on Birmingham City Football Club’s promotion to the Championship.

The series goes behind the scenes with first-team players, coaching staff and key figures at the club, including chairman Tom Wagner and Tom Brady, the American football star who is co-founder of Birmingham City’s owners, Knighthead Capital Management.

The creator of Birmingham-based TV drama Peaky Blinders and lifelong Birmingham City fan Knight is executive producing the series, bringing his life-long connection to the club and storytelling expertise to the project.

Alongside Knight, Knighthead and club board member Matt Alvarez also serves as an executive producer for the series, which is being produced by Religion of Sports and Whisper.

Conceived by Brady and Religion of Sports co-founder Gotham Chopra, the currently untitled series follows the day-to-day operations of the club as it attempts to work its way up the English football pyramid and maintain its supporter base, who have remained loyal despite a sustained period without success and silverware.

The series, which will be co-directed by Chopra and Claudia Corbisiero, joins a collection of sports documentaries on Prime Video that includes All or Nothing: Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Doubters to Believers Liverpool FC: Klopp’s Era 99 and We Are Newcastle United.
