Hewlett Packard and software developer Alias are set to offer British animators the chance to test HP Labs' experimental Maya Rendering Service. The project, called SE3D, is offering 10 groups of UK animators free access to HP Labs' render farms, which utilise the power of hundreds of processors. The participants will receive licences and training and will screen their finished projects at Animated Encounters in Bristol next April. The SE3D advisory committee is chaired by David Sproxton of Aardman Animation. The UK Film Council, Sgrin and S4C are all believed to have expressed strong interest in commissioning films from the project.
