Technology service provider, Ascent Media, has secured a multi-million pound contract with French broadcaster Television Francaise 1 (TF1).

Ascent will design and build a tapeless production system for the broadcaster's news and sports programming.

In addition it will set up a back up production system that mirrors the live facility's workflow as part of its recovery management. The company is also building a test and development system that will allow TF1 to look at system updates and test new platforms as they emerge.

Installation will take 12 months and Ascent says the first systems will be operational by mid 2008. Ascent has also secured a five year contract for the provision of technical support.

TF1 chief technology officer Giles Maugars said: “Ascent Media's open platform approach offers flexibility and scalability and the company has the technical know-how and resources to support our project in the long term.”
