Exec held similar EMEA-wide role at ESG

Banijay has appointed Endemol Shine EMEA drama chief Lars Blomgren in a similar role at the beefed-up super-indie

Blomgren will focus on Banijay’s non-English language drama across the group’s cohort of scripted labels.

This will include encouraging collaboration within its non-English scripted operations and identifying viable partners to boost investment. He will also be charged with growing co-production opportunities.

At ESG, Blomgren was instrumental in making more than half of its non-English-language dramas last year – 69 out of a total of 93 - including HBO Nordic’s Beforeigners [pictured].

He will report directly to chief executive Marco Bassetti, who said: “Lars is a great addition to our evolving global team. Having been at the forefront of the non-English language scripted operations at ESG, he is well-versed in building partnerships and maximising on investments in this arena and now, with an even broader portfolio of businesses, there is now doubt he can further develop our offering of high-quality content with cross-border appeal.”

Blomgren said Banijay’s “sharp, co-ordinated strategy…encourages independence and collaboration”.

“We are in a brilliant position to offer bold and original programming to all broadcasters and platforms,” he added.
