BBC drama producer Sarah Brown is to join STV Production to lead its output in the genre.

Brown will replace Margaret Enefer, who has worked for STV’s production arm for nearly seven years and will continue to be associated with the business on a freelance basis.

Brown is set to join later this year, when she will report into STVP’s director of content Alan Clements. He said he was confident Brown has the skills to “build on the great traditions of STV drama and re-invent them for a new era”.

She added: “I grew up watching STV and enjoying its drama programmes, so I am delighted to be joining the company and look forward to being a part of its ambitious plans for the future.”

Brown’s credits include BBC1’s Lark Rise to Candleford and Oliver Twist. She is currently working on Tony Saint’s eight-part BBC1 crime drama The Interceptor.

She is the latest high-profile departure from the BBC’s in-house drama department.

Kate Harwood, the BBC’s head of drama production for England, announced her decision to join Fremantle Media UK in March, following Nicolas Brown and John Yorke’s departure in 2012.
