The BBC has unveiled a new look homepage that it claims will ease navigation of its website and provide more up to date trends of online use.

The corporation has launched the beta version of its site allowing viewers to sample the new look including a new “carousel” advertising the range of available content.

Another key principle of the new design was to account for changing trends of use, especially a vogue for swiping content in the wake of the rise of tablet devices.

A promised revamp was part of the BBC’s delivering quality first programme announced in January of this year.

Phil Fearnley, general manager of news and knowledge, BBC Future Media said the new look site “represents a real step change” which will “make it easier for users to explore the wealth of BBC content on the web than ever before”.
