BBC2 was the big winner at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards 2013 as Parade’s End, Twenty Twelve and The Great British Bake Off all won honours.

The channel won eight of the 15 awards at the 39th annual event, which is judged by members of the Broadcasting Press Guild.

Mammoth Screen’s Parade’s End won best drama series, while its stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Rebecca Hall won best actor and best actress respectively and Sir Tom Stoppard won the writer’s award.

The Hollow Crown: Richard II, produced by Neal Street Productions, won best single drama; The Garden’s Inside Claridge’s won best documentary series; Twenty Twelve was named best entertainment or comedy and The Great British Bake Off took home the award for factual entertainment.

Other winners included UKTV’s Dynamo: Magician Impossible for best multichannel programme, ITV’s Exposure: The Other Side of Jimmy Saville and The Last Leg’s Adam Hills won the breakthrough award. The BBC picked up the innovation award for its multi-platform coverage of the Olympics 2012.

In the radio category, Radio 4’s Charlotte Green was named radio broadcaster of the year and Soul Music, a BBC A&M Bristol production for Radio 4, won radio programme of the year.

John Humphrys, BBC reporter, interviewer and presenter, was given the Harvey Lee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting in recognition of his for the Radio 4’s Today programme.

The Broadcasting Press Guild Awards 2013, which were held at One Whitehall Place, are sponsored by Discovery Channel.
