BBC Worldwide has secured five new commissions in France including a second series based on its Strictly Come Dancing format and an adaptation of BBC2’s Design for Life.

Danse Avec les Stars will return for a second run on TF1 after scoring a hit for the French broadcaster earlier this year, with 5 million viewers watching the finale.

The new series, made by BBC Worldwide Productions France, will run for seven episodes from 8 October.

BBCW’s French production arm will also remake a brace of BBC2 series: Design for Life and When Romeo Met Juliet.

Photo for Life is adapted from the Twofour production that was presented by Philippe Starck and attempted to find a new generation of British design talent.

The French version will feature Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani and air on Arte.

Romeo & Juliette, based on the BBC2 series in which two schools collaborate on a production of the classic Shakespeare play, will be remade for broadcaster France 2 at Paris’s prestigious Odeon-Theatre de l’Europe.

In addition, Direct Star has ordered nine more Star Report music documentaries, taking the total commissioned to 24 and making BBC Worldwide Production the channel’s main content provider this year.

Also set for broadcast on France 2 is Une semaine sans electricite (A Week Without Electricity), a spin-off from Une semaine sans les femmes, known internationally as The Week the Women Went.

Jean-Louis Blot, director of BBC Worldwide Productions France, said: “These new commissions continue a successful year for us.

“There’s plenty more potential for us to build ever stronger relationships with our existing – and new – partners in France.”
