Broadcast Awards 2013

The runaway success of The Great British Bake Off helped BBC Two to beat rivals BBC One, BBC Four, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky 1 to  the title of Channel of the Year at the annual Broadcast Awards, which celebrated “an exceptional year in television” last night (30 January) at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

Hosted by Rob Brydon, the Broadcast Awards welcomed more than 1,000 people working in TV to the Ballroom at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

“The year has to rank amongst the most successful in television history,” said Broadcast editor Lisa Campbell. “With the Olympics and the Paralympics, the medium proved its power to unite the nation, to move us, to inspire us, even to define us.

“Remarkably, despite these rare and incredible events, there were plenty of other creative highs this year, from gripping and authentic drama and uncompromising current affairs to audacious comedy. It was an exceptional year.”
