Shondaland-produced medical drama to be set in West Texas
ABC has greenlit a third spin-off from veteran medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, this time set in Texas.
The as-yet untitled series has been co-created and written by Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, who exec produces with Meg Marinis, showrunner on the original series since 2024.

Rhimes’ Shondaland is producing with 20th Television, while other EPs Betsy Beers and Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo.
The show will debut next year and is described as “an edgy drama” about workers at a rural medical center in West Texas.
While Rhimes has a rich overall deal via Shondaland with Netflix, it does not include spin-offs of existing shows.
Of the spin-off, Marinis said: “This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades, all set in my home state of Texas.
“I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
The drama’s greenlight follows previous Grey’s spin-offs Private Practice, which ran across six seasons between 2007 and 2013, and Station 19, which ended after its seventh season in 2024.
It comes a week after ABC revealed its fall line-up during the Upfronts, with just one new show - The Rookie: North - confirmed alongside a raft of scripted renewals.
