Philip Pratt to depart after more than a decade
Prime Video’s head of originals in Germany, Philip Pratt, is leaving the company following more than a decade with the streamer.
Pratt joined Prime Video in January 2015 initially acquiring shows before moving across to Amazon MGM Studios after the retail giant acquired the US outfit in 2018.
He has since worked on more than 50 local productions, including a German version of comedy format LOL: Last One Laughing, hit drama Maxton Hall and The Calendar Killer. Upcoming shows include a remake of golf format Holey Moley and a third season of Maxton Hall.
Pratt had reported into Nicole Clemens, who was appointed Amazon MGM Studios’ vice president of international originals last year. His exit comes six months after the departure of Prime Video’s country director in Germany, Christoph Schneider.
Pratt’s next move is not yet known but his role will be retained and a replacement is being sought, according to German trade title DWDl, which broke the news. During the interim, his team will report into Tara Erer, head of UK & Northern Europe Originals, who confirmed the departure in a note to staff.
She said Pratt had “developed [the German division] into one of our most creatively ambitious local studios. We are grateful for everything he has built and wish him all the best.”
Pratt wrote on LinkedIn: “If there is one thing I hope remains after I’m gone, it’s the belief we shared from the beginning: to create exceptional entertainment for Germany and the world.
“That ambition has always been bigger than any one person and I have not doubt that the German Amazon MGM Studios team will continue to achieve great things.”
