Endemol Shine Germany has scored a commission from Sat.1 and streamer Joyn for a format celebrating creators and investors.

Hosted by noted European entrepreneur Ralf Dümmel, The Million Dollar Idea sees ordinary investors given the opportunity to turn product ideas into real-world offerings. The series will be open to people from all walks of life and participants can enter with anything from a rough sketch to a developed invention. No business background is required to pitch their concepts to Dümmel and a team of experts.

The creators will then embark on a journey from idea-to-shelf, refining their inventions, overcoming manufacturing challenges and developing the branding. For the ideas with the greatest potential, Dümmel will take on financial risk by investing in products and successful creators will share 50% of the profits.

Endemol Shine Germany has previously produced many of Germany’s successful non-scripted entertainment formats including Shark Tank, The 50, Celebrity Big Brother and The Masked Singer.

Managing director Fabian Tobias said: “The Million Dollar Idea has the power to change lives.

“What makes the format truly unique is that it takes viewers through every stage of the journey from idea to shelf, with successful inventions continuing to thrive beyond the series. It is emotional, authentic and full of possibility, showcasing that the next great idea can come from anyone.”

Banijay Entertainment’s chief content officer James Townley added: “Given Endemol Shine Germany’s creativity and proven ability to develop standout formats, The Million Dollar Idea will be another brilliant addition to Banijay Entertainment’s growing catalogue of original IP.”
