First season of Mackenzie Crook comedy to become available on streamer around the world from October and in the UK from next year
Apple TV has picked up global rights to Mackenzie Crook comedy, Small Prophets, following an intriguing deal with distributor Sphere Abacus.
The six-part first season - a Broadcast International Hot Pick prior to Mipcom last year - became something of a surprise hit for the BBC when it debuted earlier this year on BBC Two and iPlayer.
It will now premiere on Apple TV outside of the UK from 7 October, before becoming available in the UK from 2027 following a deal with distributor Sphere Abacus.
Crook has indicated that a second eight-part season is in the works although it is unclear when that will air.
Small Prophets, which is co-produced by Treasure Trove, Blue House and Hot Olives Productions, stars Crook, Pearce Quigley (Detectorists), Lauren Patel (Waterloo Road) and Michael Palin (Monty Python).
Crook is creator, writer and director on the show, which tells the tale of the eccentric but lonely Michael Sleep (Quigley) who stumbles into the supernatural in his suburban shed.
Executive producers are Crook and Lisa Thomas for Treasure Trove Productions, and Christine Gernon and Emma Strain for Blue House Productions.
