Deal marks fifth version of the celebrity competition show

Disney-backed streamer JioHotstar and sibling pay TV channel Colors TV in India have partnered with Banijay Asia on a local remake of French reality competition format The Fifty (aka Les Cinquante).

The show, which launches on 1 February, was originally created by French unscripted label B Prod and sees 50 reality TV celebrities face the challenges of a mysterious game master, hidden behind a lion mask.

Contestants form alliances and compete to grow a shared jackpot, with eliminations decided by the players themselves. The grand prize, however, goes to one of the players’ registered followers, who provides their details via the show’s app.

The Indian commission marks the fifth international adaptation of the format, which debuted on M6 in France in 2022 and is now into its fourth season.

A Polish adaptation launched on Amazon Prime Video in 2025, while the streamer also ordered a local version in Germany and US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo has greenlit a second run from EndemolShine Boomdog.

Deepak Dhar, founder and group chief exec at Banijay Asia & EndemolShine India, said: “Hugely unique, universal and adaptable, The Fifty is a natural fit for the Indian market and will keep both the audience and the players invested from start to finish.”

Lucas Green, chief content officer of operations at Banijay Entertainment, added that the show’s “scale, intensity and ability to engage audiences” made India “a natural next step” for the format.

JioHotstar and Colors TV are majority owned by Reliance Industries, which struck an $8.5bn deal with Disney in 2024 to combine the latter’s Star India and Hotstar business with its own JioCinema outfit. Reliance also brought its Viacom18 operation into the same group, following a deal with former owner Paramount.
