Upside Down

Brazilian giant Globo has greenlit the first international adaptation of Banijay’s Dutch format Upside Down.

The show is being produced by the French group’s Brazilian production division Endemol Shine Brasil and will be filmed at Banijay Studios, the largest independent audiovisual production complex in Lat Am.

Upside Down was created by EndemolShine Nederland for local streamer Videoland and sees two teams of celebrity families competing inside a studio that is literally turned on its head.

Globo’s version will feature a specially designed set and immersive technology that puts contestants through a series of physical challenges, quiz games, and visual experiences in completely inverted environments.

Nani Freitas, chief exec of Endemol Shine Brasil, described Upside Down as “a bold, highly visual format” that would deliver “a distinctive” series to viewers.

Banijay’s Brazilian unit already produces local version of formats such as Survivor, MasterChef, Love is Blind, The Wall and The Masked Singer. It has more recently moved into vertical video with an 89-episode microdrama for ReelShort.
