The Widow Killer

Canal+ and Swedish public broadcaster SVT have picked up German drama The Widow Killer, following deals with distributor Intvition and gap financier Bravado Equity.

Rights have been acquired by Canal+ in the Netherlands, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

The series (aka Sternstunde der Mörder) is produced by Zeitgeist Filmproduktion in co-production with Epo-Film Austria, ARD Degeto Film, NDR, ServusTV, HR and Canal+ in Austria.

The show (4 x 45 minutes or 2 x 90 minutes) is also set to debut on ServusTV in Austria and Czech TV later this year, as well as on ARD in Easter.

The Widow Killer, which is based on the novel of the same name by Pavel Kohout, is set in German-occupied Prague during the final days of World War II.

When the widow of a German general is brutally murdered, a rookie Czech detective is forced to collaborate with Gestapo agent Erwin Buback to track down a sadistic serial killer before he strikes again.

At the center of the story are two women - a courageous fiancée who goes undercover as bait and a seductive actress - whose destinies are inextricably linked to the case.

Nicholas Ofczarek (Pagan Peak), Jonas Nay (Deutschland 83, 86, 89) and Jeanette Hain (Babylon Berlin) are among stars, with Christopher Schier directing and Klaus Burck writing.
