Preschool giant to switch from Netflix in 2027

CoComelon 1

Disney+ has secured a coup in the kids animation landscape, with preschool juggernaut CoComelon streaming rights set to transfer to the US giant from rival Netflix.

From 2027, Disney+ will have all series of CoComelon following the expiration of its deal with Netflix.

The brand, which is owned by Moonbug Entertainment, is a music-oriented animation which began life on YouTube, where it remains a monster hit.

Featuring collections of nursery rhymes for toddlers with an array of characters, CoComelon is one of the most-streamed titles on Netflix, featuring heavily in its What We Watched engagement report.

In the most recent iteration, series one had 16.4 million views on the streamer in the second half of 2024, making it the 62nd most-watched title. Series three of companion series CoComelon Lane was just below on 15.7 million.

Bloomberg, which first reported the news, said Disney will pay “tens of millions of dollars annually for the rights”, according to a source. Other US-based reports suggested Netflix had made an offer to renew the licence for the title but were cautious due to a decline in viewership.

Netflix recently took the rights to iconic kids show Sesame Street and also streams Moonbug sibling Blippi. CoComelon Lane will continue to stream on Netflix, according to reports.
