The Spread explores a billionaire’s attempts to reposition America’s centre of influence to Miami
HBO and Fifth Season have teamed up on a Miami-based drama starring Javier Bardem (Monster).
The Spread is directed by Kingsman’s Matthew Vaughn, with Bill Dubuque (Ozark) and Sean Sansiveri writing. Bardem stars and exec produces, alongside Vaugh and Dubuque.
The series is being badged as a co-production with Fifth Season TV Studio and is also being EP’d by Brad Weston for Makeready alongside Ian Stratford and Michael Bloom for Topic Studios.
The story tracks a visionary billionaire who wants to turn Miami into a Wall Street of the southern states by collecting brilliant, ambitious and dangerous individuals before turning them loose on the city.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice-president of HBO programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said: “Having long wanted to set a scripted series in Florida, HBO couldn’t be more excited to explore the gilded chaos of Miami and bring it to life with this kaleidoscope of extraordinary, visionary talent who is as fearless as the story itself.”
Noah Greenshner, executive vice-president and head of TV creative for Fifth Season, described the show as “a gripping story of power and ambition, set against the vivid, glamorous backdrop of Miami.”
