James Norton-starring drama heads to US and around the world following raft of sales
Forthcoming BBC1 historical epic King & Conqueror has found a US home among a raft of international sales for the Paramount Global Content Distribution-shopped title.
The series, which stars James Norton and Nicolaj Coster-Waldau as Harold, Earl of Wessex and William, Duke of Normandy, respectively, is heading to Amazon Prime Video in the States.
Additionally, HBO Max has picked up the drama for multiple markets including the Nordics, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
M-Net (Africa), SBS in Australia, Streamz (Belgium), Be TV (French Belgium), Corus’s Showcase and streamer StackTV in Canada, Greece’s Cosmote TV, Síminn (Iceland), JioHotstar (India), Yes and Hot in Israel, Lithuania’s PSB LRT and Sky NZ have also taken the drama.
The tentpole is produced by The Development Partnership, Banijay-owned Rabbit Track Pictures, Shepherd Content, RVK Studios and CBS Studios, in association with the BBC.
It tells the story of the 1066 French invasion – a clash that defined the future of a country and continent for a thousand years - and unpacks the interconnected family dynasties struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea.
The show was created and is exec produced by Michael Robert Johnson, with Rabbit Track’s Norton and Kitty Kaletsky exec producing also, along with Baltasar Kormákur for RVK Studios, Robert Taylor for The Development Partnership, Dave Clarke and Richard Halliwell for Shepherd Content, Ed Clarke, Coster-Waldau, and CBS Studios’ Lindsey Martin.
Kormákur directed the premiere episode and, as executive producer, steers the creative across the series.
“King & Conqueror is a sweeping, cinematic drama with global appeal, and we’re thrilled to see such strong demand from leading platforms around the world,” said Lisa Kramer, president of international content licensing at Paramount Global Content Distribution.
“Compelling storytelling, exceptional cast, and bold creative vision make it a standout series that resonates across markets and cultures.”
