Production on the eight-episode show is underway in New Mexico, with Amazon MGM Studios and Dallas Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios co-producing.

The series, which will premiere globally on Prime Video, recounts the Old Testament story and tracks how Joseph is betrayed by jealous brothers only to defy expectations and rise to incredible power in Egypt. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test.

Among other cast are: Alexander Siddig (Foundation) as Jacob; Babak Tafti (Succession) as Simeon; Daniel Peera (The Cleaning Lady) as Reuben; and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Leah.

Craig Wright will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Dallas Jenkins executive producing under his 5&2 Studios banner. Also executive producing are Brad Pelo, Mark Sourian, Ryan Swanson, and Tyler Thompson.

The commission follows 5&2’s first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios, which was struck earlier this year.

5&2 was launched by Jenkins following the success of The Chosen, which explores the life and work of Jesus. The series is into its fifth season and was initially produced via crowdfunding, followed by deals with streamers including Netflix and Prime Video, with Lionsgate handling global distribution.

Joseph of Egypt is the latest biblical drama to get greenlit in the US, with broadcaster Fox confirming The Faithful for its 2025-26 season. The History Channel also recently ordered an unscripted series exploring the works of The Bible, returning the network to the subject of one of its most popular scripted shows, The Bible.
