First-look of Dominic McLaughlin as the show’s central wizard revealed

HBO has started production on its highly anticipated series remake of Harry Potter, revealing a first look at the star of the show.

The series, which has been slated to debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max, is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK with a cast led by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter.

HBO has also confirmed other cast members, with Rory Wilmot playing Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.

A slew of A-listers have already been drafted in, with John Lithgow taking the role of Dumbledore and Paapa Essiedu playing Severus Snape.

McLaughlin, who takes the role previously played by Daniel Radcliffe in the films, is joined by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

HBO used the release of the show’s first-look image to also name a raft of department heads, with Adriano Goldman named director of photography.

Other additions include: Cate Hall (Hair and Makeup Designer) Paul Herbert (Stunt Coordinator), Mark Holt (SFX Supervisor), Mara LePere-Schloop (Production Designer), Naomi Moore (Set Decorator), John Nolan (Creature Effects Design Supervisor), Alexis Wajsbrot (VFX Supervisor), Dom Sidoli (VFX Producer), and previously announced Holly Waddington (Costume Designer).

The series is being written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner.

Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.

The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
