The Morning Show producer to refocus efforts on TV, film and Reece’s Book Club

Reece Witherspoon and Mediawan-owned Hello Sunshine is cutting around half of its staff, following its acquisition by the French group.
The Morning Show producer will see around 30 of its employees departing as a result of the cuts, as the company looks to refocus on its core business of TV, film and its Witherspoon-backed book club.
Departures will hit the production company’s DTC unit, which is being shuttered, and follow previous moves to cut costs including the closure of its unscripted arm.
Its former chief exec, Sarah Harden, also departed last year and was replaced by Maureen Polo, while ex-UK boss Sarah Lazenby left in June to join Love Productions. https://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/indies/love-appoints-hello-sunshine-exec-as-creative-chief/5217309.article
The cuts had been expected and come a month after the company, which was launched in 2016 with backing from Peter Chernin, was acquired from former owners Candle Media for an undisclosed sum by Witherspoon and KKR-backed Mediawan.
No financial details have been revealed but reports suggest Candle Media, which also owns kids brand Moonbug, lost seven figures on the deal having initally valued Hello Sunshine at $900m in 2021.
