Charles Touboul’s exit follows that of Emmanuel Eckert last month

Mediawan Rights drama chief Charles Touboul has left the company, Broadcast International understands.

Touboul had been with the commercial division of French giant Mediawan for more than eight years, most recently as head of scripted content.

He led a team that oversaw acquisitions and international coproductions for the company, working with both Mediawan Group producers and third-party outfits.

Touboul has been behind a raft of shows from Mediawan Rights, including Secuoya Studios’ Zorro, which sold to companies including M6 in France and Mediaset in Italy.

He also worked on White Lion’s Machine and NL Films drama Golden Hour, as well as recent release The Count of Monte Cristo, which was produced by Palomar and DEMD.

The show sold widely, with sales confirmed last month to UKTV and PBS Masterpiece in the US.

Touboul had been head of scripted content for three years and handled around 20 acquisitions per year, working across co-productions and partnerships with European producers.

He had previously been vice-president of content at Mediawan Rights, a role he held from 2017 to 2021, and previously had stints at AB International Distribution and Gaumont, having started out at Canal+ in foreign cinema acquisitions.

Touboul’s departure comes shortly after the exit of Emmanuel Eckert, Mediawan Rights’ former deputy director of acquisitions, who left last month to launch his own consultancy.
