Netflix has struck a multi-year deal with comedian and actor Drew Desbordes (aka Druski) to create original content exclusively for the streamer.

The pact will start with Druski’s new semi-scripted comedy series, Collect & Praise, premiering 1 December.

The show tracks the life of a money-hungry megachurch pastor - played by Druski - and his unpredictable deacon as they scheme their way through scandal, chaos and controversy.

The deal also covers Druski’s 4Lifers Entertainment label, with Collect & Praise marking the first of several original projects heading Netflix’s way.

Details of upcoming shows have not been revealed but Netflix said they would be “built around the comedian’s viral megachurch character, expanding one of his most popular internet personas into a longform television production.”

The streamer will also license select content from Druski’s existing catalogue, including Coulda Been Love, Coulda Been Daddy, Coulda Been Records Auditions and his comedic skits.

“I’ve built my platform by creating characters and comedy that resonate with people,” Druski said. “This partnership with Netflix will give me the resources to build on that comedy foundation and bring my work to a new global audience.”

“Druski has a gift for building characters that people can’t stop talking about,” said the streamer’s vice president John Derderian, who oversees what the streamer termed as “next gen content”.

Derderian added: “We want the best talent in the world to bring us their most ambitious work, reach new audiences and build their brands. Collect & Praise is just the beginning, and we welcome Druski to Netflix.”
