Chris Parnell will work across development and production for streamer
Paramount+ has added Apple TV+ and former Sony Pictures Television exec Chris Parnell to oversee original programming for the streamer.
Parnell will join the US company, fresh from its recent merger with Skydance, as exec vice-president of originals for Paramount+, with a remit across development and production for drama and comedy.
He will work under Jane Wiseman, who was recently appointed head of originals for Paramount+ by former Netflix topper Cindy Holland, who is now Paramount’s direct-to-consumer chief.
Parnell had been with Apple TV+ for five years, working across creative for the Ted Lasso and Succession streamer.
He worked on developing series including Dark Matter and The Last Frontier according to US trade Deadline, which broke the news.
Prior to Apple, Parnell had spent almost two decades at Sony, working across its US drama development slate before being named co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios.
Paramount has moved quickly since wrapping its $8bn deal with Skydance, unveiling a new pact with Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers and buying rights to UFC fighting.
It has also unveiled its senior exec team, with appointments including Matt Thunell becoming president of Paramount TV Studios, as expected, and Kevin MacLellan taking the top international role.
