ITVS indie invests in medium after Netflix Skyscraper Live success
Plimsoll Productions is fleshing out its live programming operations with the hire of a dedicated executive producer.
Former BBC exec Paul Wright has been brought into the ITV Studios label to develop live programming across all genres including adventure, factual entertainment and natural history.
His hire follows Plimsoll’s recent Netflix hit Skyscraper Live with Alex Honnold, which saw the free solo climber scale one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers before a global audience.
The event premiered in the third top spot-on Netflix’s global top 10 and held the position for two weeks across 74 countries, with almost 1bn global impressions.
Wright has over 25 years of experience as an executive producer and showrunner, 17 of which were at the BBC, where he built a reputation as a leading live entertainment expert in the industry. He worked on programmes such as Pride of Britain, Sounds Like Friday Night and The Million Pound Cube.
“Live television is where I live and breathe, and Skyscraper Live showed me that Plimsoll is the perfect home for that ambition,” said Wright. “The talent here is extraordinary and the canvas is as wide as it gets.”
