HBO Max and RTVE among others unveiling projects at Iberseries this week
SkyShowtime and Prime Video have joined forces on a Spanish-language drama, one of a host of projects to be unveiled this week at Iberseries in Spain.
The Tribute (w/t, aka El Homenaje) will launch in 2026 and is from the creative minds behind SkyShowtime Original Shades (Matices).
It is being produced by Secuoya Studios and Stellarmedia in association with SkyShowtime and Prime Video, with the series written and directed by Sergio Cánovas. He exec produces alongside Elsa Pataky.
The eight-episode thriller includes some of the cast from Matices, which premiered earlier this year on SkyShowtime, and tells the story of a powerful family’s patriarch who gathers his family together to plot his revenge after years of secrets and betrayals.
Kai Finke, chief content officer at SkyShowtime, said: “We’re excited to continue our partnership with Secuoya Studios and collaborate again with the brilliant team and talent behind Shades (Matices).
“With its magnificent cast and gripping storyline, The Tribute (El Homenaje) is a truly incredible project, and we look forward to premiering this suspenseful and intriguing show next year on SkyShowtime.”
Brendan Fitzgerald, chief exec at Secuoya Studios, added that the show’s co-pro nature “allows us to work with an exceptional creative and artistic team bringing to life a family thriller full of secrets and revelations.”
The drama joins a growing originals slate at the Paramount and NBC Universal-owned streamer, which is also behind true crime documentary series A Recipe for Murder, as well as upcoming series Nails and Road to Arcadia.
Other shows unveiled at Iberseries this week include two projects from Buendía Estudios.
Three-part docuseries Pelayo: Más Allá del Límite (aka Pelayo: Beyond the Limit) is for Prime Video and follows Spanish policeman Pelayo Gayol as he travels to Colombia to participate in operations against drug trafficking.
Another three-part docuseries, Expediente Vallecas (aka The Vallecas File), is for HBO Max, and explores a case from the 1990’s that saw a 17-year-old woman who died in Madrid after a series of paranormal situations at home.
Premiere dates for the projects have not been revealed.
Elsewhere, public broadcaster RTVE’s international format flurry continues with a local remake of a Top Chef spin-off.
Top Chef: Dulces y Famosos brings together a group of celebrities with the common goal of becoming great pastry chefs and marks the 30th international adaptation of the NBCUniversal Formats show.
It is being produced by RTVE in collaboration with Boxfish, which previously adapted Celebrity Bake Off and Dog House for the broadcaster.
