Spain and US-based firms aim to develop, produce and finance ’ambitious, international’ shows together
Madrid-based Secuoya Studios has partnered with US-based Telemundo Studios to develop, produce and finance Spanish-language content for international audiences.
The “multi-project” agreement aims to tie together Secuoya and Telemundo’s expertise in the US, Spain and Latin America, with creative teams collaborating on original IP.

Telemundo Studios will hold a first-look option for distribution rights in the US, while Secuoya Studios will have first-look rights for Spain and Portugal.
The partners will aim to use international financing structures including production incentives to develop “ambitious, large-scale international productions”.
Secuoya and NBCUniversal-backed Telemundo will also bring creative talent from both companies onto projects where appropriate.
José María Caro, chief content officer of Secuoya Studios, described the deal as “an important milestone” in its international growth strategy.
“We share a clear vision of the value of Spanish-language storytelling and the importance of developing projects with strong creative foundations and global ambition. We are confident this collaboration will enable us to create premium content with true international reach.”
Javier Pons, chief content officer & head of Telemundo Studios, added that the partnership was “a natural step in our strategy to continue expanding premium Spanish-language content with global ambition.”
He continued: “We share a creator-first vision built around compelling stories and exceptional talent, and we’re excited to combine our strengths to develop premium content that resonates with audiences around the world.”
Last month, Spain’s government approved an injection of almost €100m (£86m) into investment company Aurora Media Inversiones to boost the country’s audiovisual sector, with the company being led by Secuoya Content Group.
