Co-development agreement to leverage access into Latin American and Spanish markets
Spain’s Secuoya Studios has struck a pact with Lat Am production outfit 3Pas Studios that will see the two companies co-developing projects together.
Secuoya, led by former Sony Pictures Television exec Brendan Fitzgerald, will work with 3Pas on original ideas for theatrical release, international streaming platforms, and global broadcasters.
Shows will be “rooted in the rich narrative universe of Latin America”, the companies said, with the slate set to range from comedy formats and dramas to socially driven stories.
3Pas, which has offices in Mexico City, Miami and LA, is led by chairman Eugenio Derbez and chief exec Ben Odell.
Its output includes movies such as Radical and Overboard, with Leonardo Zimbrón (Club de Cuervos, Nosotros los Nobles) among its senior exec ranks.
“Latin America, and Mexico in particular, are strategic territories for our international expansion,” said Fitzgerald, who was named chief exec at Secuoya Studios last year. He added that the partnership “represents an outstanding opportunity to strengthen our commitment to global audiences.”
Odell said: “Collaboration is a core strategy at 3Pas Studios, and this agreement not only gives us the chance to work with Secuoya Studios, whose strengths and extraordinary team are unmatched, but also reinforces our commitment to delivering quality in every project, while opening the door to Spain, a market rich in talent, stories, and creative opportunities.”
The alliance marks the latest attempts by Secuoya Studios to expand its international reach, following a deal last month with Sydney Gallonde in France and BlackBox Multimedia in the UK. The initiatives support the studio’s goal of producing 30% of its content in languages other than Spanish.
