30 Coins producer Pokeepsie Films and Night Has Come firm EO Contents Group have struck what is believed to be the first scripted coproduction pact between Spanish and South Korean companies.

South Korea’s EO Contents and Banijay-backed Spanish outfit Pokeepsie have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the co-production of films and TV series.

EO Contents is behind Netflix drama Night Has Come and upcoming scripted series Love Scout and Head over Heels, while Pokeepsie has a slate including Perfect Strangers, 30 Coins and The Bar. It was founded by by director Álex de la Iglesia and producer Carolina Bang.

The companies said the partnership would allow them to create “powerful synergies” and to pursue joint ventures targeting the global market. Both will mutually review their project IP, discover and co-develop a slate of joint ventures, and cooperate closely on the co-production of series and films.

Iglesia, whose indie became part of Banijay Iberia in 2022, said: “I hold Korea’s storytelling and production capabilities, which consistently create works enjoyed by people all over the world, in high regard. I was greatly impressed by the many projects EO Content Group is producing, and I believe this partnership will become a new model for collaboration between Spain and Korea.”

Oh Eun-young (Ellie Oh), chief exec at EO Contents Group, added that the partnership “will be an opportunity to further strengthen our competitiveness in the global media market.

“We will create a flagship cross-border production that will become a major hit not only in Korea and Spain, but across the entire global market.”
