Its first project will be feature doc Ground Control, which comes after Random House Canada commissioned her memoir Ground Control: Losing my Child to Suicide, which details the tragic story of losing her 14-year-old child to suicide in November of 2020 and its harrowing aftermath.

The doc has been in development alongside the writing of the book with production finance now agreed by Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program, Canada Media Fund’s (CMF) POV program and Rogers Documentary Fund.

CBC in Canada is onboard, with production slated for later in October and delivery set for spring following the launch of the book in January. It is being written by Miazga and journalist Katrina Onstad.

Canadian director and writer Chase Joynt (No Ordinary Man) is attached, with Greg Beer and Katrina Onstad writing. Miazga is exec producing with Catalyst founder Julie Bristow.

The film will be distributed theatrically in Canada by Eyesteel Films and worldwide rights outside of Canada are available.

Miazga was most recently president and executive producer, unscripted and kids & family at Sphere Media, which she joined after Bristow’s BGM was sold to Kew Media and then acquired by Sphere Media. She had previously co-founded NewroadMedia in 2011 with CBC exec Ann Marie Redmond.

Miazga said: “As M Media officially launches, the greenlight for Ground Control marks a deeply personal and professional turning point. After this period of reflection and planning, I’ve built the foundations of a company rooted in resilience, creativity, and ethical storytelling.”
