Fightland is first internationally produced drama for rapper-turned-producer and starts filming in London this autumn
The high-stakes world of British boxing is the setting for Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson’s first drama to be produced outside of the US.
Set to start filming in London later this year for Starz, Fightland follows a disgraced, formerly incarcerated boxing champion who returns to London to seek vengeance against the crime family he thinks betrayed him.
The eight parter is described as “a high-octane scripted drama set in the cutthroat, high-stakes, cash-rich, world of British boxing”, with Jackson exec producing through his G-Unit Film & Television.
Wallander’s Francis Hopkinson and Catherine the Great’s Kate Leadbetter of UK-based Expanded Media will produce, while the series also reunites Starz with Power duo Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr., who are showrunners, executive producers and writers.
Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith will also serve as executive producers and writers.
Starz, fresh from its long-awaited split from Lionsgate, said the show’s greenlight is part of its strategy to build an owned-IP-driven slate of premium originals for underrepresented audiences.
Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz, described the show as “the kind of unapologetically visceral, premium storytelling that we are known for, and we believe that each dramatic round of this compelling drama will leave fans wanting more.”
“Set against the backdrop of the British boxing underground, this series promises to be the perfect combination of character and adrenaline,” she added.
Jackson said: “Fightland marks my first internationally produced show through my G-Unit Film & Television. I am excited to bring that global energy to the screen.”
Jackson founded G-Unit Film & Television, Inc in 2005 and has produced shows ranging from Starz’s hit franchise Power, ABC’s For Life, and Trill League for BET+.
