Starz and Disney+ are among buyers of S.W.A.T. Exiles, the self-funded spin-off series sold and produced by Sony Pictures Television (SPT).

The US cable group has snagged US rights while Disney+ has picked up the show for its service across Lat Am.

Other buyers include Stan in Australia, Sky in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, Rai in Italy, Bell Media in English Canada and Wowow in Japan.

Sky New Zealand, DPG in Flemish Belgium, Tet in the Baltics and Quebecor Content in French Canada also have rights, alongside LG Uplus in South Korea, AXN in Spain, Portugal, Hong Kong, Taiwan and across Southeast Asia and beIN across the Middle East, North Africa and Türkiye.

Sony has also struck deals with Canal+, which will air the series across the Netherlands, Central and Eastern Europe, Poland, Sub-Saharan Africa via Canal+ MNET and French-speaking African territories.

Starz will debut the show on 25 September, with select international territories premiering day-and-date.

The show marked a shift in funding model for SPT, which was produced via a unique partnership between Katherine Pope’s Sony Pictures Television Studios and its sales division, led by co-presidents Jason Spivak and Mike Wald.

Keith Le Goy, chairman of SPT, told Broadcast International last year that the project would be replicated if succesful and added today that the show reflected the studio’s “broader strategy of making bold investments in premium IP and leveraging our independent studio model to identify opportunities, move quickly and maximise value around the world.”

He added: “The commitment from STARZ, combined with robust worldwide sales, validates both the franchise’s lasting appeal and the strength of Sony’s global business.”

The latest expansion of the franchise will see Shemar Moore reprise his role, with the story tracking how a group of untested, unpredictable young recruits fare in combat. It was greenlit by SPT last year and part of the distributor’s 2025 slate at LA Screenings that year.

Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Moore, James Scura and Jon Cowan. SPT produces and distributes the 10-episode series globally.
