Disney+ and Astro strike content pact
Disney+ has agreed a deal with Malaysian operator Astro that will see the two companies sharing content.
The Mouse House streamer will provide shows such as Scrubs, New Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Astro TV, Astro Go and NJOI, as well as films including Pirates of the Caribbean and Kingsman.
Disney+ will get local shows such as Ola Bola, Takdir Itu Milik Aku and Didi & Friends.
The pact expands Disney’s existing agreement with Astro, while building on the US giant’s strategy to strike deals with local broadcasters. Other deals have seen Disney+ partner with ITVX in the UK, Atresmedia and RTVE in Spain, and NPO in the Netherlands.
Lady Grace S2 greenlit by BBC, ZDFS
The UK’s BBC and ZDF Studios have extended live-action spy series The Lady Grace Mysteries into a second season.
The show is from Cottonwood Media and Coolabi Productions, with ZDFS and BBC Children’s and Education commissioning the second run, which follows the Aprul debut of the show.
Principal photography of the 13 x 24-minute second season will commence in Brussels this July, later moving to County Durham in the UK.
Federation Kids & Family and ZDF Studios are handling worldwide sales.
Texas Tech docuseries ordered by Paramount+
Paramount+ has greenlit a docuseries chronicling the Texas Tech University football team.
The four-part show is from director and showrunner Micah Brown (Coach Prime) and is being produced by Paramount sibling Skydance Sports - and producer of fellow docuseries Rafa - with Second Wind Creative.
The as-yet untitled docuseries has been in production since January and is expected to premiere ahead of this year’s college football season. It follows the Texas Tech Red Raiders as head coach Joey McGuire builds a new team identity during a demanding offseason.
Samsung TV agrees Padel TV deal
Padel Time TV, the global TV channel dedicated exclusively to the sport of padel, has agreed a deal with Samsung TV to launch in the UK for the first time.
The agreement, brokered by Laurent Dumeau’s LDI Media, will see the channel offering UK viewers access to live events, documentaries, coaching content, interviews, highlights and original productions.
The channel launched in India earlier this month on JioTV and JioTV+, and is available across the Middle East via DU in the United Arab Emirates and OSN+.
