Streamer launches across Europe and Asia, ahead of arrival in major European markets next year
HBO Max availability is closing in on 100 countries after its latest roll-out across EMEA and APAC.
Warner Bros. Discovery has launched its streamer in 12 countries today: Albania, Armenia, Cyprus, Estonia, Georgia, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, and Tajikistan.
Series such as The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Euphoria, House of the Dragon, Succession and The Penguin are all available, alongside His Dark Materials, Peacemaker, and Rick and Morty.
Upcoming series including Task, starring Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, and IT: Welcome to Derry, will also be offered to subscribers, alongside library content ranging from Friends, Gold Rush and Game of Thrones, to The Big Bang Theory and The Sopranos.
A raft of films are also offered, such as recent release A Minecraft Movie, while Eurosport will carry coverage of events including the Tour de France and the US Open tennis grand slam in August, with access available as an add-on in select countries.
The roll-out comes as WBD prepares to launch HBO Max - recently rebranded from Max - in the key European markets of Germany, Italy, and the UK early next year.
WBD is also preparing to formally split its cable and streaming operations around the world, and today confirmed that it is exiting New Zealand’s free-to-air market.
It is unclear how the separation of WBD’s business will shake out elsewhere, particularly in regions such as CEE where pay TV remains a key revenue driver.
JB Perrette, chief exec and president of global streaming & games at Warner Bros. Discovery, said HBO Max had enjoyed “a year of great momentum” ahead of the UK, Germany and Italy launches next year.
The streamer, which offers standard and premium plans to subscribers, has rolled out in countries including Australia and Turkey this year. WBD said in its Q1 2025 update that the business had 122.3 million streaming subscribers, a YOY increase of nearly 22.6 million.
