The Ambassador explores how Behiç Erkin saved thousands of Jews between 1941 and 1943

Istanbul-based ONN Productions is launching a scripted series based on the true story of a Turkish ambassador to France during World War 2 who saved the lives of thousands of Jews.

The Ambassador is based on Emir Kivircik’s novel of the same name, which tracks how Behiç Erkin arranged for Jewish people to travel to Istanbul between 1941 and 1943.

Erkin is credited with saving the lives of 20,000 Jews by granting citizenship to those who could learn six words of the Turkish language.

The project is being launched to international buyers next week at Mipcom and is being envisaged as a four or six-part series.

ONN Productions was launched in 2019 by Hakan Eren, the former chief exec of Endemol Shine Turkey who was behind scritped shows including Paramparça (Broken Pieces)& Kördüğüm (Intersection).
