NHK appoints president ahead of Nobuo Inaba’s exit 

Japan’s NHK has named former journalist Tatsuhiko Inoue as its next president.

The appointment was decided by NHK’s governors, with Inoue set to replace incumbent Nobuo Inaba, whose term ends on 24 January. Inoue’s three-year term as NHK president will begin a day later on 25 January.

The exec joined NHK as a news reporter in 1980, before rising to become director of programming and latterly executive vice president.

Inoue said he would focus on challenges including “further adapting to the digital era, expanding our international presence, fostering the next generation of talent, and ensuring the sustainability of reception fee revenues.”

 

Death in Paradise firm names creative chief

Fremantle-owned Red Planet Pictures has appointed Mammoth Screen exec producer Tom Leggett as its first creative director.

From February 2026, he will work alongside Red Planet’s co-chief executives Belinda Campbell and Alex Jones to oversee the development team and lead a push for new, returnable and limited series.

He has spent more than seven years at Mammoth working projects including the upcoming ITV spy thriller Betrayal, the upcoming BBC1 climate change series The Rapture and BBC3’s Grime Kids. He also developed the ITV thriller Code of Silence starring Rose Ayling-Ellis. Read more

 

Dancing Ledge chief to exit

Chris Carey is to exit as managing director of The Responder indie Dancing Ledge Productions next year, Broadcast can reveal.

Carey took the decision for personal reasons and is expected to step down in April 2026. He will continue to serve as an exec producer on a number of the Fremantle label’s existing projects.

He has served as managing director of Dancing Ledge since 2020, when he was promoted from his position as executive producer. Read more

 

OWN orders Maxxed Out

Warner Bros Discovery and Harpo’s US network OWN has ordered an eight-part series exploring the emotional and financial chaos impacting US citizens.

Maxxed out will debut 10 January and delves into how money can strain relationships, with financial expert Leah Collins on hand to provide advice.

Lionsgate Alternative Television is producing.
