Broadcaster is airing every game from the competition, which starts later this month
Gabby Logan and Ugo Monye will lead the BBC’s presentations of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
The competition, which takes place across England from 22 August until 27 September, will have every game available through the BBC. All group stage matches featuring England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland will be shown live on TV along with every knockout round clash, with other fixtures on iPlayer and the BBC Sport website/app.
Joining Logan and Monye will be New Zealand Rugby World Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist Ruby Tui, as well as England winners Maggie Alphonsi and Katy Daley-McLean, former England head coach Simon Middleton, well-known rugby commentator Brian Moore, former Wales captains Siwan Lillicrap and Philippa Tuttiett, Scotland internationals Deborah McCormack and Heather Lockhart and former Irish players Sene Naoupu and Anna Caplice.
Former England 7’s player and current Gladiators superstar Jodie Ounsley will be on site at selected matches, alongside reporters Sonja McLaughlan, Sarra Elgan and Elma Smit, and commentary will come from Sara Orchard, Andrew Cotter and Claire Thomas.
The tournament will kick off with England facing the USA at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland on 22 August, with Wales v Scotland and Ireland v Japan later that weekend.
As well as the live action, documentary Scrum Queens: The Women Who Saved The World Cup will tell the story of how the first Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991 was organised. In addition, Scrum V The Warm Up, hosted by Lauren Jenkins, the regular Scrum V team and former Welsh international Philippa Tuttiett, will share their thoughts, insights and predictions ahead of each gameweek.
There is also a push across children’s and non-sport programming. Abbie Ward from the Red Roses will read a CBeebies Bedtime Story on 21 August, Newsround will cover the tournament throughout, and TV show My Life: Rugby Girl will tell an inspiring women’s rugby story on CBBC and iPlayer.
The One Show will feature a series of films on inspiring figures in women’s rugby, and will be filmed live from Sunderland the night before the opening fixture. In addition, Bargain Hunt will have a special episode starring former England and Wales rugby players, and Morning Live will cover the tournament extensively.
Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, says: “This summer has seen women’s sport smash through boundaries, break records and created unstoppable momentum. The Women’s Rugby Cup, hosted in England, will undoubtedly be a peak moment and place women’s rugby in the global spotlight like never before. BBC Sport will showcase every match of it live and bring together a presenting line-up of experts who know the game inside-out.”
