Netflix is to release a documentary on the history of FIFA ahead of the World Cup.

FIFA Uncovered becomes available on the platform from 9 November ahead of the competition beginning in Qatar the week after.

Netflix released a trailer for the documentary this week, which mentions the numerous corruption allegations levelled against the organisation, as well as the “pageantry, power struggles, and politics of hosting the World Cup”.

Qatar’s successful bid for the World Cup has come under much scrutiny, following accusations of bribery against members of the FIFA executive committee, an FBI investigation into FIFA, and the need to move the competition to winter. The human rights and conditions of migrant workers have also been under the microscope, with many thought to have dies while building facilities for the tournament.

FIFA Uncovered was produced by Ventureland and Passion Pictures, with John Battsek (Searching For Sugar Man, Hillsborough), Miles Coleman, and Daniel Gordon producing. Gordon, who won a BAFTA with Battsek for their Hillsbrough documentary, also directs. You can watch the trailer below.

Netflix is not the first to take a look at the controversial history of FIFA, with Warner Bros. Discovery commissioning and releasing The Men Who Sold The World Cup last year - which interviewed former FIFA president Sepp Blatter. It appears that FIFA Uncovered will also speak to Blatter.
