The 10-episode series will be available for free as part of the Rakuten Stories line-up.

Rakuten TV has announced the release of BVB 09 Stories: Who We Are, a 10-episode documentary series about Borussia Dortmund.

The first four episodes will be released on 27 May, with subsequent episodes then be released monthly on the VOD platform.

The documentary will cover the Bundesliga club’s 2020/21 season, which saw manager Lucien Favre leave the club part way through the campaign due to poor performances. Edin Terzic then became interim coach, leading the team into the Champions League places ahead of the appointment of Marco Rose this summer.

It will specifically focus on how the pandemic affected the team, with isolation and uncertainty particular features of their experiences.

Episodes one to four cover the stories of Erling Haaland and his father, and former football players Alfie Haaland, Marco Reus, Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Giovanni Reyna, Mo Dahoud, Lars Ricken and Yousouffa Moukoko.

Later entries will look at Jude Bellingham, Jürgen Klopp, Mats Hummels, Axel Witsel, Thomas Meunier, Lukasz Piszczek, Thorgan Hazard, Roman Bürki, Marcel Schmelzer and Roman Weidenfeller, and those from the business side, such as Aki Watzke (CEO of BVB) and Carsten Cramer (managing director at BVB).

BVB 09 Stories: Who We Are is the latest addition to the Rakuten Stories line-up, which also includes Matchday: Inside FC Barcelona, Made in Senegal, Andrés Iniesta - The Unexpected Hero, The Secrets of La Roja - World Champions, Ride Your Dream, Eighteam, Break Point: A Davis Cup Story and upcoming series Ona Carbonell: Starting Over, Champions and The Giants.
