The duo returns following a FIFA World Cup 2026 run that generated more than 7.3 million streams, with new episodes dropping every Thursday and Sunday

BBC Sounds has announced that Rick Edwards and Lloyd Griffith are to return to the Football Daily podcast to host two new visualised episodes every week.
The episodes will be available to listen to on BBC Sounds and watch on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Football YouTube channel from 15 October. New episodes will be released every Thursday and Sunday, covering the biggest stories in football.
During FIFA World Cup 2026, The Football Daily podcast generated more than 7.3 million streams, including over 3.4 million views for its visualised editions on BBC iPlayer and BBC Football YouTube.
Edwards said: “The response to Football Daily during the World Cup was surprisingly positive given it was essentially just two goons chatting nonsense about the game we love (football, although table tennis also got a lot of mentions). Sliding onto the regular Football Daily feed with two weekly episodes presumably means we’ll be asked to come up with more of a format but I plan to resist that quite robustly.”
Griffith adds: “Well here we go again! Rick and I loved being part of Football Daily over the summer and we’re thrilled to be back every week to yap on about what’s been going on in the world of football. Football Daily already has a fantastic audience and we’re looking forward to bringing plenty of energy, debate and let’s be honest, nonsense, to football fans throughout the season.”
The Football Daily podcast covers everything from the Premier League and the Football League, plus Scottish, International and European football, with a curated weekly feed.
