Ollie Pope is expected to wear the camera at short leg for England’s test v India this week
Sky Sports is adding the helmet camera innovation to test cricket for the first time.
The innovation was in use throughout The Hundred last summer, with Gravity Media supplying its HelmetCam and KeeperCam for the tournament. Those devices have full HD 1080i/50 resolution, HD-SDI output from the receiver, image stabilisation and weigh 230g. Gravity gained them after acquiring the Globecam business, alongside the DSNG (Digital Satellite) fleet, from Telstra Broadcast Services in July.
This time round it won’t be used with a batsman or wicket keeper, but worn by England’s Ollie Pope while fielding at short leg, according to the Evening Standard. This will be a world first in test cricket, with both the ICC and the ECB giving their approval.

Sky Sports has said that it hopes to “give viewers a unique view of the action out in the middle” during the test, which takes place at Edgebaston 1-5 July. The test is the fifth in the series the pair played last year, which India leads 2-1 after ending its tour early last time round.
