Channel 4 has bolstered its fact ent commissioning team, responsible for some of the broadcaster’s biggest hits – including Big Fat Gypsy Weddings – with two appointments.

Richard Evans, a former BBC commissioning executive involved in moving Countryfile to primetime, and Betty producer Lucy Leveugle have joined the team.

Evans arrives from a freelance position, having left the BBC in 2010. Prior to his time at the corporation, he was head of development at indie Betty.

Evans replaces Dominique Walker, who left the department in November 2011 to become a freelance executive producer in the independent community.

Leveugle joins from Betty, where she was series producer on The Undateables. She takes the role of commissioning editor to cover Tina Flintoff ’s maternity leave.

Both will report to deputy head of factual Liam Humphreys.

He said: “We have a big year ahead of us and both Rich and Lucy will help us deliver big and distinctive factual entertainment formats for this year and into 2013.”

C4 is yet to announce a replacement for Sue Murphy, head of features and factual entertainment, who left to join Optomen as UK creative director.
