Playwright Debbie Tucker Green is to make her TV directorial debut by adapting her own work, Random, for Channel 4.
The commission is part of a raft of initiatives by C4’s new Creative Diversity team, led by director Stuart Cosgrove.
Random, which premiered at the Royal Court, charts a family’s reaction to a sudden, violent death. The one-act play sees one actress take on the roles of several family members.
A 60-minute film is being made by Polly Leys and Kate Norrish’s Hillbilly Films, and will be screened in unconventional, urban locations, and on C4 in peak in 2011. Robert Wullf-Cochrane is commissioning editor.
Cosgrove has also commissioned Hey Buddy Productions to make a clips show that will air around the CDN Diversity Awards in November to celebrate the best of diversity in British television.
The indie has made films for MTV and The Stayin’ Alive Foundation, and is run by Laurence Koe and Shurwin Beckford.
It won the order following a tender, and C4 has also handed runner-up Lemonade Money a development deal to produce potential ideas for T4 and Music.
Cinnamon Films of Kensal Green and Paul Cooper-Blake of Lambeth-based Maroon Productions have also been awarded development funding to explore ideas for C4.
